Katarzyna Miściur
Born in Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland
I have been truely fascinated by ceramics for years. It lets me to create by use of three-dimensional language, the most complicated ideas and emotions.
Additionally, I am interested in restoration of monuments, especially ceramic objects.
Through exploring variety of techniques and technology of ceramics, I constantly expand knowledge on the subject. Another interesting issue is firing process in ceramic kilns of various types, including wood-fired kilns. Unexpected, astonishing results, teamwork, fire - all of it makes these activities taking the form of almost a celebration.
Growing up in countryside has influenced my life and art, through a deep, special attachment to nature. Importantly, I find the ceramic material to be most connected to nature.
In my creative work, I draw inspiration from the contrasts between nature and the world shaped by humans. I am concerned about the extent to which the natural environment is being replaced by artificial human creations. I express these feelings through ceramic sculptures that take the form of various symbolic objects and silhouettes.
Important series of my work is called 'Urban Tissue'. It is a response to the problem of human impact on the natural environment. As a result of human's activity, the natural environment is transformed into artificial urban structures.
